The Jackson Ceramix Site has a long history of contamination in soils, groundwater, and wetlands from manufactured and painted china operations dating back to the 1900s, leaking lead and solvent-laden sludge, to a decades-old unlined lagoon and drainage into Sandy Lick Creek. The site was added to the Superfund National Priorities List in 2005 after investigations found high levels of lead concentrations in sediments.
Starting in 2025, LAND Remediation, Inc. (LRI) has been the lead remedial contractor working for EA Engineering under EPA Region 3 oversight to execute the cleanup of Operable Unit 2 (OU2). LRI’s scope includes site clearing utilizing our Amphibious Excavator with tree shearer attachment, excavation of source materials, dredging of creek sediments, off-site disposal of contaminated waste, and restoration of affected wetlands.
The goal is to remove the hazardous lead sediment, reduce environmental risks, and restore the property to pre-existing ecological conditions.
