LAND Remediation, Inc. (LRI) is currently executing a three-year remediation project at a former chemical facility impacted by an estimated 470,000 lbs of chlorinated solvents, dominated by tetrachloroethene (PCE). The site contains 149,000 cubic yards of impacted soil across a 2.2-acre footprint, with contamination extending to depths exceeding 50 feet below ground surface.
In place of traditional excavation and off-site disposal methods, LRI and our teaming partners are constructing the largest known In-Situ Thermal Remediation (ISTR) for Chlorinated Volatile Organic Compounds (CVOC). Utilizing heating technology known as Thermal Conductive Heating (TCH) with 450 thermal heater wells that are installed across the treatment zone to remediate the site. This allows contaminants such as PCE to volatilize from the subsurface and be captured by horizontal extraction wells placed under the engineered surface cover and are treated directly on-site.
Construction activities are underway with ISTR Remediation starting in late 2025 and remedy completion and restoration targeted for completion by the end of 2026. Once complete, the remediation of the Kenco site will help drive future community and economic revitalization. Situated within a designated economic development corridor, the site is slated to be returned to productive use, creating opportunities for new businesses, jobs, and tax revenue. LRI is helping lay the foundation for the property’s reuse as a valuable community asset for years to come.
