LAND Remediation, Inc. (LRI) was awarded six priority dredging projects across the Lake Ontario watershed under the Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative (REDI). The initiative was launched by the State of New York in response to ongoing shoreline flooding and aimed to strengthen community infrastructure and promote economic stability in high-risk zones. LRI provided both mechanical and hydraulic dredging services depending on site-specific constraints.
Each location posed unique access, equipment, and environmental challenges. At Port Bay, LRI performed shore-based mechanical excavation with on-site reuse of dredged material. LRI executed barge-based mechanical dredging at Irondequoit Bay and Pultneyville Harbor, both utilizing dump scows for open water placement. Bear Creek presented unique constraints due to inlet size, prompting LRI to self-perform all barge loading/unloading and material transport using deck-mounted containers. At Long Pond, LRI employed amphibious hydraulic dredging, discharging sediment via pipeline to open water. At Johnson Creek, a hybrid amphibious/mechanical approach was used, and the material was repurposed by LRI for local bank stabilization efforts. All site mobilization was conducted via water using Lake Ontario as the primary access route.
Over the course of the program, LRI successfully removed and managed approximately 18,000 CY of sediment.
