For years, the Village of Hoosick Falls relied on a water supply that was ridden with perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) contamination. In partnership with state and local agencies, LAND Remediation, Inc. (LRI) played a key role in bringing this critical system online by installing a new permanent water supply that meets all state and federal drinking water standards. LRI constructed a 1.25-mile transmission line that now delivers clean groundwater from two newly developed production wells to the village’s existing water treatment plant. LRI’s responsibilities included the installation of 6,800 LF of 12” HDPE water main using a combination of horizontal directional drilling and standard methods, including 4,000 LF within the NYSDOT ROW along Route 22. The project also required the installation of 800 LF of water main beneath the Hoosick River using HDD methods. A prefabricated pump house was installed alongside two new production wells, and 10 residential service connections were completed as part of the system tie-in. This construction effort was part of a larger $45 million agreement between NYS and the companies responsible for the contamination. This work marks a major milestone in the region’s long-standing efforts to restore safe drinking water for the 4,500 residents of Hoosick Falls.
“The Hoosick Falls community is a national example of strength, resiliency, and collaboration in meeting an extraordinary challenge, and the milestone reached today will ensure clean drinking water for generations of residents.”
