LAND Remediation, Inc. (LRI) was contracted to remove and replace a compromised retaining wall at this former MGP site. An existing section of the cast-in-place concrete wall showed movement, cracking, and bowing after previous work was performed in proximity to it. LRI removed the decorative fence, and excavated soils to relieve pressure on the wall for demolition and removal. Sections of adjacent walls were also removed to allow for replacement utilizing H-piles and concrete lagging panels. After removal of the existing wall, H-piles were drilled, installed, and concrete encased to 16.5’ below grade for incorporation of pre-cast concrete wall panel installation. A leveling cap was formed and poured to provide a level surface to seat and seal the new panels. LRI provided design and installation of the concrete panels including methods for sealing the sides and bottom to prevent water migration. Abutting walls were tied back into the new retaining wall consisting of both cast-in-place concrete and wood timber framing. Final restoration included backfill and asphalt replacement, and re-installation of decorative fencing along the top of the wall.
