LAND Remediation, Inc. was subcontracted to design and install a support of excavation system (SOE) to perform impacted soil excavation and management at the Virginia DOT Elko Lab facility.
LRI ultimately utilized a watertight steel sheet pile cell with internal bracing for removal of RCRA Hazardous soils to an average depth of 26’ below grade. During removal and management of soils, groundwater was pumped and treated through an on-site water treatment system to maintain dry conditions during excavation and backfilling. All treated groundwater was tested and discharged in compliance with a Virginia Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit.
After verification of remedial goals for soil removal, LRI provided and installed clean import materials consisting of stone, geotextile fabric, select fill, and topsoil. All work was performed at an active facility and required protection of traffic as well as sensitive site features and infrastructure.
“LAND Remediation, Inc. completed a technically difficult and logistically challenging heavy civil/environmental project for EnviroTrac in Sandston, VA. Keith and Will were totally committed to the success of this project from the bidding stage to project closeout. An assembled team of highly skilled supervisors, equipment operators, laborers, and technicians mobilized heavy equipment and machinery to a site 600 miles from their headquarters and performed flawlessly throughout the project. LRI Project Manager, Justin Lis performed continuous on-site supervision and coordination for the installation of the SOE system and excavation of 5000 tons of hazardous chlorinated solvents contaminated soils to a depth of 26’ below grade and water table at 5’ bgs. An on-site water treatment plant was construction and continuously operated 24/7 throughout the project in accordance with VA discharge permits and regulations. Soils were simultaneously loaded into intermodal truck bodies for transport by rail to one US based disposal facility and tractor trailers for over road transport to a facility in Quebec, Canada. Daily communication from Justin and his team with EnviroTrac, our client and regulatory authorities was outstanding and led to a successful completion of the project on-time and within budget to the satisfaction of all parties. I’d highly recommend LRI for any highly complex remedial project!”
