Precision in Action Wetland Remediation Progress at Western PA Superfund Site

The ongoing cleanup and wetland remediation work at the USEPA Superfund Site in Western Pennsylvania reflects more than technical achievement, it represents LAND Remediation, Inc.’s commitment to doing the job right. Through environmental dredging, precision excavation, and a continued investment in specialized equipment, we’re helping restore a once-contaminated site into a thriving, functional ecosystem.

Investing in the Right Tools for Complex Environmental Work

LRI self-performs tree and shrub removal utilizing the LB350X excavator equipped with a ‘Woodcracker’ attachment. The woodcracker works like a feller-buncher and provides a safe and effective means to cut and control trees of various sizes.Successful environmental remediation depends on the right combination of expertise, planning, and equipment. Our crews are working in challenging wetland and creek environments that demand adaptable, low-impact solutions. Our amphibious excavator, designed for soft and saturated terrain and equipped with a wood cracker tree shearer attachment, allows our team to access areas where traditional equipment can’t operate for tree removal and excavation. This capability makes it possible to complete precision excavation and dredging while minimizing disturbance to sensitive wetland habitats.

LRI continually reinvests in our fleet to ensure we can meet the evolving technical and environmental challenges of each project. The right tool for the job requires investment, and we view that investment as an essential part of being a reliable partner to our clients and a responsible steward of the environment.

A Site with a Long Industrial History

This superfund site traces its industrial history back to the early 1900s, when manufactured and painted china operations left behind contamination in soils, groundwater, and nearby wetlands. Leaks of lead and solvent-laden sludge, combined with drainage from an unlined lagoon into the nearby Creek, resulted in widespread contamination across the area. LRI is currently serving as the lead remedial contractor for EA Engineering, managing cleanup activities for Operable Unit 2 (OU2) to remove contaminated materials, dredge impacted waterways, and restore wetland and upland habitats.

Delivering Large-Scale Restoration with Precision

The cleanup and wetland restoration work underway demonstrates the scale and technical expertise required for projects of this magnitude. LRI’s scope includes:

Progress in Motion

Our recent project update video highlights the precision of ongoing cell excavation operations and the visible transformation taking place across the site over our first six months on the project. Each phase of work shows the value of having the right team, technology, and equipment in place to deliver a restored landscape that will support local biodiversity and long-term ecological resilience.
