Project Summary

LAND Remediation, Inc. (LRI) was contracted to complete final shoreline and site restoration along the Saranac River in Plattsburgh, NY, following more than a decade of upland and sediment remediation at the former manufactured gas plant site. This standalone phase, executed in 2023, restored 2,000 LF of shoreline and transitioned the remediated corridor into a stable, publicly accessible bike path and riparian landscape alongside the Saranac River Trail.

LRI rebuilt the shoreline using a combination of stone fill, cobble, and boulder sourced from onsite reuse. More than 20,000 tons of material were placed to reestablish stable slopes, improve long-term erosion controls, and blend the riverbank back into the surrounding environment. The restoration design incorporated habitat-enhancing elements such as native tree plantings, riparian vegetation, and aquatic plantings to support ecological recovery along the river’s edge.

Upland areas were reconstructed with imported topsoil and seeded to tie the restored shoreline into broader site improvements. LRI also managed demobilization of remediation infrastructure and completed cap installation in support of the site’s conversion to public green space. The result was a fully restored shoreline system that balances ecological function and community use.
